The aim of a Backgammon match is to move your checkers around the Backgammon board and bear them off the game board faster than your competitor who works just as hard to do the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Winning a round of Backgammon requires both tactics and fortune. Just how far you can move your chips is left to the numbers from tossing a pair of dice, and how you shift your chips are decided on by your overall playing strategies. Enthusiasts use differing plans in the differing stages of a game based on your positions and opponent's.

The Running Game Technique

The goal of the Running Game technique is to bring all your checkers into your home board and pull them off as quickly as you can. This plan concentrates on the speed of moving your pieces with absolutely no time spent to hit or block your opponent's chips. The ideal scenario to use this plan is when you think you might be able to shift your own checkers quicker than your opposition does: when 1) you have less chips on the board; 2) all your checkers have past your competitor's pieces; or 3) the opposing player does not employ the hitting or blocking strategy.

The Blocking Game Tactic

The main goal of the blocking tactic, by its name, is to stop your opponent's chips, temporarily, while not fretting about moving your checkers rapidly. After you've established the blockade for your opponent's movement with a few pieces, you can move your other checkers quickly off the board. You really should also have a clear strategy when to extract and move the pieces that you employed for blocking. The game becomes interesting when the opponent uses the same blocking technique.
